Courtship Signals – Eye Contact - 2
The other two ways with which eyes can be averted are: turning them upward and maintaining them on the same level. In the first case, we are generally in presence of a woman that is not interested to the man with which she is making eye contact and this will probably be confirmed by the fact that she won't make eye contact with him again.
In the second case, the woman is probably not certain if she likes the man or not and she will probably look at him again to verify and to have a confirmation about what she has seen with the previous glance.
A woman’s eye contact game (relatively to the types 2 and 3) can then be synthesized in the following way: a woman interested to a potential partner has the tendency to exchange with him two or more glances with a maximum length of 3 seconds each over a period of time of a few minutes, and to lower the eyes before averting them.
It has been observed that, to be considered as a flirting action, the mean time between two eye contacts has to be of about 45 seconds. The best way for the man to answer to this type of woman’s behavior is, after the first exchange of glances, to keep on looking her so that when she will look back for the second eye contact, she will find him ready.
He can eventually cast a smile to confirm his understanding of the message she is sending him and to make her understand that he finds her attractive too.
In case, after the second exchange of glances or the following ones, the woman realizes that the man is not looking in her direction anymore and therefore he doesn't give her his attention, she would probably loose interest in him. She could eventually try a last eye contact, but if this time also she doesn't find the man’s eyes, she will almost surely end any further attempt.
