Courtship Signals – Gestures and Postures – 1

Even though some of the gestures and postures we will see can seem casual movements or expressions that often happen in the most disparate circumstances without any specific connection to courtship, in reality, especially if we see them in environments conductive for flirting such as bars, clubs or discos, they must be considered as courtship signals.

The researches that have classified them have verified, through observations and comparisons, that these signals, with the modalities and the characteristics described, are surely courtship signals that women use for communicating their availability to be approached or to signal their interest toward potential partners.

Glances are often accompanied by gestures of "reinforcement", signals that have the duty to support and to amplify the meaning of the glance itself. Among these gestures the more common one is the hair flip. It is done by passing the palm of the hand along the hair’s surface or passing the fingers through the hair. It is usually repeated one or more times.

This gesture is frequently preceded by a rapid inclination backward of the head.Another frequent gesture is that of the sideway tilt the head. This movement sends substantially two messages: the first one as a signal of submission, serves to reassure the partner.

Exposing the neck, the woman declares not to be aggressive. This is practically the same gesture that preys make when they are in presence of the animal that is chasing them. The second message that this gesture sends is that of interest toward the other person.

This happens very often, for instance, when we listen to someone who speaks about matters we find interesting. In these situations, we tend to tilt the head sideway as a sign of interest and amazement.

Since the neck is also an erogenous zone, exposing it and, sometimes, caressing it with the fingers of her hand, the woman also sends a sexual call signal.Other common gestures are: the lip lick and the lips protrusion, both gestures with strong sexual value. Finally, we have the smile and the laughter.
